The report indicated a worrying trend by showing a 22% increase in hospital admissions week over week with an average of more than 100 admissions per day. Also, the number of reported cases increased by 55% from the last week. The state now averages around 824 reported cases daily.

New York Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald expressed his concern and urged all New Yorkers to remember that COVID-19 is a treatable disease. He said that COVID-19 tests are easy to use and highly accurate. If someone tests positive, they should reach out to a healthcare provider to consult treatment options, which can help prevent severe illness and hospitalization.

While the health officials reassured that there are currently no immediate concerns regarding hospital bed capacity, they are urging the public to remain cautious. Although the situation is not as critical as it was during the peak of the pandemic. Health officials advised those at higher risk for infection to continue taking necessary precautions to protect themselves.

While face masks may not be as prevalent, COVID-19 is still a serious threat in New York State.
