Covid-19 alert: New subvariant of Covid-19 ‘Eris’ spreading rapidly in the UK, raising concerns
According to the UK Health Security Agency, a new variant of COVID-19 is spreading rapidly across the UK. Britain’s Health Security Agency said Omicron had altered its genes to create a new sub-variant called EG.5.1, nicknamed Eris. This subvariant (Eris) has been found in one in seven people with Covid-19 in Britain. Experts have warned that, like Omicron, this variant can quickly infect the human body. Eris infection has the potential to cause complex diseases.
According to the information received from the British Health Security Agency (UKHSA), this new variant ‘Eris’ is spreading very fast. In one week, the rate of Eris infection exceeded 14 percent. At least 4,000 samples of covid patients have been tested and it has been found that this virus can spread very quickly. Its infection rate is also high.

Virologists say the new subvariant is thought to have mutated repeatedly. In which the spike protein(s) itself has the amino acid code changed several times.
Scientists say, its infection has not yet been seen to cause very complex diseases. Time will tell if it will again create a pandemic or go the endemic route, but since the species can spread through the human body so quickly, there is reason for concern. Eris has another characteristic. It can reduce the potency of antibodies. Antibodies bind to the viral strain and inactive it, but Eris has the ability to destroy the antibody itself.
According to virologists, the more an infectious virus spreads through the human body, the more its genetic sequence changes. In order to spread in the human body, the virus needs to multiply, so it divides quickly. And the more division there is, the more the virus will reproduce itself. Infectious will become highly contagious.
